I worked as Summer Graphic Designer at the Alberta Aviation museum in 2022. I worked on the visitor map, children's programming visuals, and the interpretive signage in the museum.
The museum's interpretive signs was in need of a revamp. I worked with the museum curator to take existing proposed style and branding for the AAM and adapt it to a new system for signage across the museum. The result is a retro sign with a scrapbook influence, showcasing historical images and charts while retaining a high readability for visitors.
Because my placement at the museum was short, I was only able to complete one sign, for the Tiger Moth. It was developed as a template with a full grid and typography system, that was later used by the curator to update signage across the museum.
My favourite part of designing this sign was getting my hands on aircraft user and assembly manuals to scan for each sign's subtle black-on-gray background!
A side-by-side comparison of the new and old signage for the Tiger Moth.
